Well, the provocation comes, when you're a writer, from the constant process of rejection. Not only are you rejected by magazines and publishers and contest judges, but you spend all day rejecting words or ideas that aren't 'good enough'. This hyper-critical faculty is very difficult to turn off when it comes to the self, and I suspect many writers begin with a deep sense of their own fallibility and 'unacceptable' attributes, it's almost a pre-requisite of the desire to write!

So moving from the craft-based desire to reject to a purpose, to the person-based desire to be whole can be very difficult indeed. Your words made it seem more possible to balance these two forces, which is encouraging!
@Kay: Thanks - I understand better now. Leona

Leona, this is a truly brilliant post! And I'm humbled to have shared the link with you -- thank you. You have touched on so much here. Yearning to trust your own heart, and knowing when you've touched something essentially true when a sheen of tears come and your heart turns. This is huge and definitely from your soul.

The key I think, and am beginning to allow through meditation, is allowing compassion. That keeps me tuned to my heart and open to other people.

@Davina; I am so with you on allowing compassion; I heard one yogi invite meditators to "notice if you can give your consent to holding yourself compassionately."

Wonderful post, very thought-provoking.

@Kay: I am thrilled that you thought my post was thought-provoking. I am curious about what comes for you...thanks for commenting. Funnily enough, even though I would continue writing even if I thought no-one was reading, I still love hearing from my readers - especially about your experiences during or after reading my blog.
